Principal Geotechnical Engineer
I have nearly 20 years of geotechnical, civil, marine, and construction experience throughout Alaska and the United States. I work hard to tackle the engineering problems I am presented. Whether large or small, I will strive to follow solid engineering practices in economical and practical ways.
Steven founded Devise with Nick Choromanski and Jesse Gobeli in 2024.

Steven's hobbies include:

Steven led a geotechnical exploration of an existing hangar at the Kotzebue airport. His work included planning and overseeing the exploration, in addition to preparing the geotechnical report. He performed one-dimensional thaw evaluations considering insulation and thermosyphons for the new hangar due to long-term heat flow from both the new building and climate change.
Steven aided in the evaluation of new fuel storage tanks near the Port of Alaska (POA). His work included overseeing Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) along with historical information, to evaluate the subsurface conditions. He worked closely with the client to develop costs for different options for the tank foundations to aid in selecting the best option.
Steven provided high-strain dynamic testing (HSDT) for Alyeska Pipeline Services at the Jim River crossing. He performed HSDT or more commonly known as PDA testing, on several piles to support new vertical support members (VSM) for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
Steven performed detailed thermal analyses of existing containment dikes on the North Slope to evaluate, based on current and projected climate models, when the dikes will see permafrost degradation sufficient to comprise the current containment method.
